Lady Gaga
A recent music press interview said she was burning up the calories with her incendiary performances. Lady Gaga is reported to have said, "All that dancing and non-stop travelling can really interupt a girl’s beauty sleep - and making sure you’ve got plenty of energy to perform means eating right."
“I give 200% to my show every time. I don’t hold back – you can’t. Everyone expects the best you’ve got, so you go out there and give it your very best.” We’ve heard she has been including more complex carbohydrate foods in her diet much the way an athlete would to make sure the energy is there when you need it most.
Carbohydrates so often have a bad press these days and its mostly those selling so called ‘miracle’ diets that are misleading the public. So we checked with our resident experts to find out the truth. Dr. Jan Willem van der Kamp of the Healthgrain project explained.
The slow-release variety of carbohydrates provide us with the essential nutrients we need for a healthy body, giving us plenty of energy and keeping us feeling full for longer. “Carbohydrates, like wholemeal and wholegrain bread, pasta, brown rice and pitta breads keep us feeling fuller for longer,” says Dr. van der Kamp. “They also cause a very slight rise in our blood sugar level, which is also a good thing.”
“This can help to improve our mood over a period of time, as it affects hormone levels in our brains slowly, keeping us content.” Perhaps this is the secret of Lady Gaga’s knowing smile…
